On Sunday, November 1, 2015, “In Concert for Cambodia” held a highly successful “Fall Fiddle Fundraiser” at the Mill Road Community Space in Chelsea, Quebec. An enthusiastic audience of close to 100 attended this upbeat musical event, coming from as far away as Montreal and Amherst Island! The concert started off with a fiddle rendition of “Oh Canada” and then moved on to traditional fiddle music.
This event was organized by the new IC4C Youth Coordinator and fiddler, Kyle Burghout, who has played twice in the All-Ireland Fiddle Competition and won the Eastern North American Fiddle Competition in New York this summer. The concert featured three local fiddle groups: the “Fiddleheads“, a group of young fiddlers from Chelsea ranging in age from 4 to 17; Ellen Daly, an award-winning fiddler from Ottawa, accompanied by Karson McKeown on guitar; and 2015 Canadian Duet Fiddle Champions, Kyle Burghout and Emily Yarascavitch (who came all the way from Waterloo), accompanied by Anthony Vial on piano. These three fiddlers have formed a new trio and released their debut CD this summer.
